Water Baths, Circulators & Chillers

Distilled water should be used, as it is considered to be a pure water, not weighing chlorine or minerals, which may cause some kind of reaction or boil that could damage the sample or equipment; has a pH of around 7, making it a neutral p, there are different types of distilled water that are classified by their purity level; they are classified through their chemical and physical properties.

Distilled water is used to prevent the embedding of metal ions on the resistance, this water is widely used not only in the baths of mary but in the different uses of the laboratory, to clean the equipment, prepare samples since it is free of electrolytes and mineral salts, in addition it is insulating and repels magnetism, and above all distilled water is used because its boiling point is higher than ordinary tap water.

Types of Laboratory Water Baths that a Laboratory may need

Oil Bath

Oil baths are essentially the same as water baths with the difference that some oil is used instead of water. They are suitable when the temperatures to be reached exceed 100 ยฐ C. For these baths it is important to use very thick-walled beakers to contain the oil.

Because oils have a high heat capacity and heat slowly, it may be helpful to partially heat the bath oil while the experiment is being set up.

Transparent Water bath

Transparent water bath is a common piece of equipment in many laboratories. It is used for a variety of tasks, including culture incubation, serologic sample testing, and warm-up reagents. The bathroom uses a heating element to maintain a constant temperature, usually between 37 and 60 degrees Celsius. The water is kept circulating by a pump, and the level is maintained by a float switch.

The toilet is usually placed on a bench or in an extractor hood, and connected to an outlet. The equipment should be filled with distilled water before use. The water level should be checked regularly, and the bath should be emptied and refilled when necessary.
